Busy with work... 11-11-08 08:02pm CST
Not too much going on here, but I thought I'd better write another blog or I would get lashed by the blog Nazis. :) Dave and I are just staying busy with work. Today was an especially busy date, with 5 different emails going out tomorrow. I'm not too thrilled with the daylight savings time change last week, but what can you do about it? It's just so depressing to come home in the dark. All I want to do it get into my jammies and curl up on the couch. Oh well, since it is getting cooler, I did make some White Chili tonight. yummmm....... That's the good part about winter.

Another things that's been going on lately is lots of birthdays in our family! Even though we can't be with any of our family who's celebrating, it's still exciting. Wyatt, my nephew, has a birthday tomorrow! He's turning 5 years old. I can't believe it. And my other nephew, Luke, turns 2 on Saturday. So sister and sister-in-law, keep me posted on the celebrations.

Also, we went to a Halloween party last weekend at the Broyles' house. They always put on the best parties! Dave was a cowboy riding a horse (one of those blow-up costumes). But he deflated halfway through the night because the motor burned up. I was a banana. It was a pretty random costume, but I thought it was funny. And again, if I ever figure out how to post pictures, I will.

Well, hows everyone else's fall going so far? Anything exciting going on?
carawatsonfranklinWe had a kid come to our house wearing one of those blow up costumes. He was an overweight hula dancer. That one was quite disgusting. Email me the pics.
anneI'm trying to picture Dave in a deflated cowboy/horse costume. Did he look really wrinkled and old and sad??
britt22yay! good post
missyOoooh... I wanna see a picture! Can you email one?
jenjamWe've been really busy this Fall, too. We've been traveling to watch my sis play vball, but her last game was yesterday. Maybe things will slow down a bit now? Probably not. It sounds like ya'll were pretty cute at your party. I would love to see those pictures!
I bet your white chili was good. I LOVE to make soups during the winter. We actually had taco soup yesterday for lunch and I'm looking forward to the leftovers today.
Thanks for posting. I miss you!
haileymGo to www.photobucket.com and create an account. Upload your pictures and copy and paste the url link (or something like that) into you post and wa-la there's your pictures! Now post some pictures :)
aj1210You were definitely my favorite at the party. It cracks me up thinking about how that banana made it harder for you to move your head!

Indiana Weekend, Bloody Monday... 10-13-08 06:54pm CST
Yeah, thought I would add some scary suspense to the title of this blog - being almost Halloween!! But it's really nothing too gross. Dave and I went to Indiana this past weekend to visit Dave's parents. We hadn't been up there since May, so we were well overdue for a trip. It was a lot of fun. We went shopping, got some ice cream (my weakness), and picked out Christmas gifts that we know we're going to get in about 2 1/2 months. (Oh yeah, I was supposed to forget about those, wasn't it? - What Christmas gifts?) But it was great to spend some time with Dave's parents. It's a hard trip for a weekend (4 hour drive), but it's worth it.

And then....bloody Monday. Oooohhhh! So I finally gave blood again today!! YAY!! Major accomplishment for me. I almost passed out the first time I gave blood a couple of years ago, so I've been terrified to do it again. I made to sure get the last appointment that I could, and I ate some cookies before...and after, and I survived!!!

So, what's everyone doing for Halloween? And what is every dressing up as this year?
missyI have a pizza dough recipe I'm emailing you.

Wyatt will be Obi Wan Kenobi and Annie will be a ladybug. I haven't figured out if I'm going to dress up or not.
carawatsonfranklinGrace is going to be Silvermist (one of the characters from the new Tinkerbell movie), and Luke is going to be Elmo. Dean and I will not be dressing up.
sunnyleeI am going to Mickey's Not So Sarcey Halloween Party in FL!!!! What are you doing? I think I'm going to be dressing up at either: Minnie Mouse...or Cinderella...shocker I know. Hey, are you two living in TN?
britt22You are so brave! I have been terrified to give blood after I had to get blood taken from me back when I was a teen! It was a BAD experience. I am so happy that other people can do it! :-)
jenjamGlad you had a good weekend. We're thinking of dressing up as Barney, Betty, and Bam Bam!
casey_watson_hehnerHey Laura - no we're not living in TN. We're still in BG,KY.
sunnyleeYou are STILL in BG???!!! ;-) are you all going to East Side CoC or West Side? Or...Lost River? I am liking it here more and more as the weeks go by. I think it's gonna take some getting used to as I have been in FL for quite some time ..and have/had a lot of great friends there..so it's been hard. But I REALLY enjoy being around Ross and his brother and sister in law. I really don't like the school I work for..but it's a paycheck..that's what I tell myself. What do you do?
julesCongrats on giving blood! I was able to give once, but then I clotted the needle the last two times and have since given up.
And cookies make Everything better. :)
casey_watson_hehnerYes we're still in BG. Things just kinda worked out that way. We go to West End, which has really grown over the past couple of years. I work for Camping World as an E-commerce Marketing Manager, and Dave works for the City of Bowling Green as a Construction Project Manager. Sorry you don't like the school you work for. I hope things get better for you there or you find somewhere else to work next year. So I missed the wedding date - when is it?

Ahh....Fall 10-05-08 12:57pm CST
Well, we're back to the same-ole, same-ole now. Work, church, cooking, cleaning, walking the dog, etc. I do have to say it took me a good week to get back into the swing of things at work. After vacation, it is SO hard to go back sometimes.

But now the weather is changing and getting cooler, which brings about all sorts of new exciting things. Dave and I planted some more plants in our yard yesterday, since fall is so good for planting. We planted a barberry bush in the front, and hostas all along the back of our house. I'm just not good at that sort of thing, but I been trying to take note of yards with good landscaping and copying what they do. So we'll see how it turns out next spring.

What are some exciting things you all are doing this fall?
missyI LOVE hostas!

Getting ready for Halloween... Wyatt's birthday... Thanksgiving.... :-)
anneI'm not very original when it comes to landscaping, but I love to copy what I like, so I've driven around town to see what people have planted in the yards that face the direction ours does. It's been lovely weather here, and we've spent the past three Saturdays working in the yard. It's fun to work together! Hope yours turns out well. I haven't had much luck with hostas, but Missy seems to get along well with them.
britt22I meant to talk to you at church tonight and this morning! UGH! Oh well. Hope you are doing ok! :-) That is exciting about the plants! We need to come visit Pepper. :-)
s_laughterGoing to Florida! I won't be ablt to enjoy the fall weather as much, but I might see Mickey Mouse!
julesDo some azaleas...they work well anywhere and don't require extensive pruning/shaping the first year or two.
nillabarrWe are going to celebrate Lily's first birthday this fall!
jdickensCasey!! Ya'll need to come visit Aggieland. B/c I miss your face.
jdickensfor some reason eating salsa makes my sore throat feel better. Probably b/c it's being numbed. lol
missyYou might come next SUMMER?! I need to be notified of these things, young lady!!
carawatsonfranklinYay!! You finally posted!!
haileymPut a fall wreath on the door and cleaned up the porch and windows. That made me happy.

DC!!!! 09-08-08 07:29pm CST
You're right LauraLee - my blog was old. But that's because I was in Washington, DC all last week!! Dave and I had an absolute blast!! We saw so much in just a few shorts days. Going there really made me appreciate our country and its government even more. I get so sick of hearing all of the bad-mouthing that goes on in the media today. We really have so much to appreciate everyday. Well, here's a summary of our trip:

Day 1:
- Got up at 4:00 am to go to the airport; arrived at our hotel in Washington, DC approx. 3:00 pm. We immediately hit the streets.
- White House (including mall area/ellipse)
- WWII Memorial
- Reflecting Pool
- Lincoln Memorial
- Vietnam Memorial
- Went up into the Washington Monument and saw DC by night
- Ate dinner in Chinatown

Day 2:
- Went to church via metro/bus (That was an adventure)
- National Air & Space Museum
- Original Smithsonian building (The Castle)
- National Gallery of Art (East building) - Saw actual Monet paintings!! Awesome!!

Day 3:
- Iwo Jima Memorial
- Arlington Cemetary (which includes Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington House, Amphitheatre, Changing of the Guards, women's Memorial)
- Pentagon
- Went to colonial downtown Alexandria, VA, walked down to the river, and had ice cream and an old-timey malt shop
- Korean War Memorial
- The World War Memorial (WWI - but it was built before WWII)
- SAW PRESIDENT BUSH'S BLACK HAWK HELICOPTER LAND ON THE WHITE HOUSE LAWN - He was returning from his LA/TX trip. AWESOME!
- Ate at Ben's Chili Bowl (Bill Cosby has made it famous)

Day 4:
- Ford's Theatre (outside of it) + House where Lincoln died
- Old Post Office Pavilion
- National Archives (Saw the Declaration of Independence - it's a lot more faded than National Treasure depicts it as being)
- National Postal Museum
- Union Station
- National Gallery of Art (West building)
- Smithsonian Zoological Park (got to see the giant pandas)

Day 5:
- Bureau of Engraving and Printing
- Mt. Vernon (George Washington's home)

Day 6:
- Supreme Court building (were renovating so we didn't actually get to see any cases - oh well)
- Library of Congress (my FAVORITE! - it was beautiful)
- Private Capital tour from our State Representative's office assistant (Thanks Mitch McConnell!)
- Went to Georgetown for a date and toured the "Old Stone House" (built in 1775)

Day 7:
- White House Visitor Center
- White House tour (We got to see the East Wing and the entire main floor)
- Holocaust Museum (would definitely recommend going to even though it's sad)

Then we left the city to head to the airport.

Great trip!! Even though you learn a lot of American history in school, this really brings it all together because this is where most of it took place.

I hope everyone else had a great Labor Day weekend too!!

girl_hustedWow!!! Glad you enjoyed your time there! I'd love to go back again someday.
sunnyleeAHHHHHHHH I'm soooooo jealous!!!!!! Thanks for the update!!!
jenjamSounds like a great trip. I've always wanted to go to DC...
We're getting ready to leave on a cruise up the East Coast of New England and into Canada soon. I'm pretty excited.
It's good to hear from you. Thanks for updating. We really need to "talk" more!
jenjamThis weekend I was with my sis and we were talking about FC. She's planning to go next year, and is going to take the luck of the draw as far as roomies go. She knows it worked out great for me! ;)
I was reminiscing about some of the many fun and crazy times we had. Miss you!
planetheadDid Mitch let you on the floor to tell everyone to drill here, drill now?
missyThat sounds like such a great time! Glad you got to go!
britt22Day 8: Picked up Pepper and you were so excited! Can't wait to come visit her soon! :-)
s_laughterYou guys sure did fit a lot in! Glad you all had fun and a safe trip!
carawatsonfranklinSounds like fun!! One day we'll have to do it with our family!
jkHi Casey. It's Julie (Kreis) Jackson. I didn't realize you were on here. DC is such a beautiful place. I'd love to go back and see more though. Hope you guys are doing well!
alowethat sounds like fun! i love the dc area! glad you had a good trip! i'll be up there in october! :)
haileymWhew! Bet you were worn out! Sounds like alot of fun!
anneWhat a great trip! Your descriptions helped me relive the trip we went on with Jady's high school band. That was great!!
kristiegoreI love DC, it's so much fun. The Holocaust museum was my favorite, my grandpa fought in that war and was one of the troops going into the concentration camps to take out the prisoners. We have pictures of some of the piles of bodies where they burnt them and then pictures of people who are barely alive being carted out. It is so sad, but such an amazing exhibit.
ticketsdid you just love it?! did he help any?
casey_watson_hehnerYeah Laura, you're brother gave us some good tips for traveling in DC.

Summer, summer, summertime... 08-15-08 10:00am CST
How's summer going for everybody? We're just staying busy, busy, busy. I love ready everyone's blogs, so thanks to everyone who posts regularly (yeah, that's so not me). So not a lot going on here, just work, church, walking the dog. That's about it. Pepper and Kitty did get to go to the vet last weekend though. That's was interesting. Dave's parents were down visiting so they went to the appointment with us. Dave's dad was holding Kitty, and she took out her rage on him. She just hauled off and bit him! That little stinker! But she did pretty good the rest of the time (she didn't hiss when they gave her the shot).

Also, the big thing right now is we're planning our trip to Washington, DC!! We're so excited. Neither of us have ever been, so it's totally new territory for us. If anyone has any advice (places to visit, good restaurants, etc), we would appreciate it. Also, if anyone knows of a church in the area, please let us know. It didn't have any listed in Dad's "Church of Christ directory". The trip is coming up quickly (only a couple of weeks away) so we're just trying to hammer out our itinerary.

Hope everyone has a great day!
missyWe went there a few years ago! It was a LOT of fun. We were in Virginia for a wedding, and only had a couple of hours to see a few things, but it was such a neat place. I'll try to find out about a congregation close by.
jenfc00We are having a great summer. And it has been very busy. Emma keeps me on my toes. ;) DC is awsome I loved it! Have fun!
planetheadDC is awesome. There is a church in Annandale (sp?) Virginia, I believe, and perhaps another near there. This guy should know of a place/places. I can ask him.
sunnyleeoh!!! how fun...LUCKY!
britt22Thanks for coming over! We had a blast!!!
julesI loved the three days I spent in DC (although I was in conferences during the day). There's a church in Annandale that we attended. Amber Adams folks may go there, or somewhere close.
karate7We used to live in the DC area. There is tons of great stuff to do there. I think that they still have the twilight parades at the Iwo Jima memorial and you should look into that because it is really cool. Also, I don't know the hours but the Marine Corp museum is in Quantico-which is a really fun museum. I don't know what you are doing on your trip and what you doing while you are there, but you could spend a day in the southern part and do Mount Vernon, then the Marine Corp Museum and go to the Stafford church of Christ that evening if it was a Wed. That is were we attended when we lived there, it is really small but the people are amazing and super sweet! Just a thought, if you want directions, I can let you know how to get there from where ever you are staying. Also if you like airplanes, you should go out to the Air and Space museum that is out by Dulles airport (not the one on the mall). They have lots of cool planes out there, and even a space shuttle. And I believe that they were starting a new church out near there. I would have to ask around for more info on that though.
jenjamYour trip sounds fun. You need to post pictures once you get back.
Yeah, I'm sure Parker would love to have a REAL dog, but his mean mommy says NO WAY!!! haha. At least not right now. Maybe once he's big enough to help take care of the little doggie!
s_laughterWhen are you guys going? Kevin and I are going there next week. He has a conference there and I get to go with him. I know there are some churches close by in Virginia. If you go to www.findthechurch.com and click on the state, it will list the congregations there. We've both been before, but it will be fun to go together. We plan to go to the Haulocaust Museum. The stinky part is that most of the Smithsonian is closed for renovations, but it will probably be cool in 2009. Have fun planning! I'll let you know if we find something really awesome next week.
frogkisserI've worshipped up there once, but I don't remember if it was on the Maryland or Virginia side. A Smelser of some kind preached there at the time (a few years ago.)
s_laughterI looked again, and I guess the only Smithsonian Museum that is closed is the American History one. That one is my favorite, and it opens in November this year. Maybe you guys will enjoy some of the other museums.
ticketsmy summer has been INSANE! Auburn AL, Bowling Green KY, Louisville KY, San Francisco CA, Indianapolis IN, Auburn AL, Atlanta GA, Oak Ridge TN, Louisville KY... :o)

ok, washington d.c...my brother & family just went for 8 days so they could DEFINITELY help you!
haileymHaven't been there in a longggg time. Hope you have a fun trip. Post pictures :)
casey_watson_hehnerOkay, we've found a couple of congregations that are close to downtown DC. Annandale and Riverdale. Riverdale is going to be closer for us since we're staying right downtown. Thanks for everyone's helpful comments!
simpwildcatdefinatly use the metro, at any cost... we got a 7 day pass, unlimited use, at any time of the day, for like $33 a pop... and if you want to have some cool night pictures, it's really worth getting up early and getting in line to get tickets so you can go up to the top of the top of the washington monument. they're totally free, and you can choose the time of day that you want to go. we chose a night time, and the pictures were awesome.
s_laughterWe will be there August 25-31. We will just miss you. We are staying in Alexandria, VA. There's a metro stop just a couple of blocks away from our hotel. I'm so excited!
nillabarrI would love to go to DC sometime!
britt22Hope yall are having fun!! :-)
sunnyleethis blog is old!!!!
lwHi Casey....hope you and Dave are doing well! I didn't know you were on here and just found you through "suunylee"'s blog:)
