Yes that's right. Today was all about moving...sort of. Last night Melissa and I loaded all of the gifts she received at the shower into my jeep plus a few house keeping item she bought earlier that day. This morning I got up at seven and went straight to our new apartment and unloaded my jeep. I then went to her house where her dad and I loaded a book shelf into his truck. We then picked up a truck that was loaned us for the day and met our help at her,(or was that ours too? She did give me a key for it. Well, it's a moot point now.) public storage unit and loaded our generously donated furniture into our collective vehicles and unloaded it all into our third story apartment. That all in all took an hour at the MOST. We had lots of help from our Aleif brothers.
Once that was done and we had eaten some lunch a few of us went to help Alex move into his brand new, and very nice, town home. With three pick up trucks and six able bodies loading and unloading we made pretty quick work of that as well. All in all the actual moving was done between 10:00am and 4:00pm. After words Melissa and I went to pick up a few odds and ends that she had discovered were of immediate importance for the apartment. After words we dropped off the truck and I took her home. I all that moving I don't think a single thing has been taken out of the bed room I am currently staying in. I will be doing that over the next few days and most likely actually living in our new apartment with in the week. I think I will be very comfortable, but it will be an adjustment. The generosity of the family I have been staying with is enough to spoil anyone. They have been an amazing bless that I hope to imitate in the near future. Now I just have to keep that apartment clean so that Melissa doesn't move into a disaster zone after our wedding. ;) (I don't think that will be a problem.)
THANKS TO ALL YOU GUYS WHO HELPED US. IT MAKE TODAY A REALLY GREAT DAY!
Glad everything went so well. Just one question. Did you mean "afterwards" when you wrote "after words"? Either would work in the sentences but the latter sounds like there is more to the story.
Ithink this is the first move I haven't been a part of in some way. I am so happy for you and Melissa. You better keep it clean. You know you were taught well. You were the best kitchen cleaner in the family. I am proud of you.
My birthday was this past Saturday. I wasn't really expecting anything really, but I was very pleasantly surprised by people's thoughtfulness. My family sent me a couple of cards and sang to me over the phone, which means a lot to me, the family that I'm staying with gave my a gift card to a bookstore (which has now taken the form of a very cool Star Wars book), and Melissa and her family through me a quick little birthday celebration before taking me to a rockets game. I can confidently say that this has been the best birthday in a very long time. Thank you everyone for your thoughtfulness.
In a much less cheery note I think I utterly and completely bombed my math test today. When I say "think" I do not mean that I am unsure about several of my answers. I mean I am unsure about the few questions I did not blindly guess on. :( As a silver lining, NO BODY finished that test on time. If I had to find the limit of the collective confidence in that class room today, I would say without a doubt it was "-Infinity".
I know that I have more to say...I just can't remember what. I'm out of time anyways I suppose. Happy election day! I hope;)
I feel so insulted that you won't even listen to my amazing rendition of happy birthday on your phone so don't even bother calling me back! Unless of course you're interested in selling/eating chocolate!
I have been using them all more than I thought possible while replacing ceiling tiles. That's right. I'm doing something else this week. This work certainly adds a little flavor to life. I don't really know what I'll be doing next.
On an academic not. I got 100% on my first calculus test! I will find out next week it I'm actually that smart or was just dumb lucky. ;)
Well, I have moved on from tarpping roofs to working with clean up crews at the local schools. I'm still working for the same individual but he's subcontracted under another guy who has the contract with the schools...I think. Yesterday was the third day I worked this job. The schools are in a real hurry to get everything in order so we are working from 7am to 7pm. It's hard work but as far as I am concerned it's a God sent opportunity, and in one of life's great ironies Hurricane Ike was the delivered it. Here are some new experiances I have had because if this job.
--Trying to direct the work of a group of men older and don't speak much, if any, English.
--Driving the biggest truck I have ever sat in, and never before driven, with an equally big dump trailer hitched to the back of it.
--listening to same bobcat operators from Athens Georgia (pronounced; jo-jah) and realizing that it is its own dialect.
--Actually driving a Bobcat. (no not the animal. It is a piece of machinery used to move stuff) THAT was kind of fun.
Today though I am not working. I have class, finally, and hopefully my math instructor has recovered from what ever it was that put him in the hospital. I should probably brush up for that test. Later.
