Thankful for good friends 10-07-08 03:14pm CST
I've been thinking about my friends lately. The ones who have married and moved away, but are just around the corner in my heart. I hope we can all get together in person sometime in the next few years.

I am also thankful for my virtual friends. The ones I have never met but have made me laugh, made me cry and made me think about things in a new way as well as encouraged me by their example.

And for the friends I haven't met yet, whether online or for real. Everyone I meet brings a new flavor for me to savor.

Thanks to you all.

Caring for the Bassfords 09-20-08 01:41pm CST

Hi everyone,

I am coordinating a collection effort for Matt & Lauren. There are so many people who have shown care and concern for them, and I hope that together, we can help to offset some of the financial burden related to their unspeakable loss.

While money cannot lift their emotional burden or bring their daughter back, I feel that it only adds insult to injury to bear the financial stress that a tragedy like this brings.

Any funds collected through this effort will be given to them to assist with their medical expenses, as well as the travel expenses of their family members. I’m told that the funeral costs are already being covered.

Even if you are far away, this is something that you can do to help them out in this time of need. Even if you can only spare a small amount, it will add up if enough people contribute.

If you can help, please make a check out to MATT OR LAUREN BASSFORD and send it to the address below:

Caring for the Bassfords
PO Box 1016
Mokena, IL 60448

All funds collected will be given to them collectively, with a card containing everyone’s names. Ideally, I’d like to have all funds together by September 30th.

You can also help by getting the word out about this effort to as many people as you can think of. If anyone belongs to Brethren Online or any other similar forum, I would appreciate it if this information could be posted there as well.

And of course, please continue to pray for them. Lauren's words to me yesterday were "Pray for our sanity. We're going to need it."

In Christian love,
Paula

Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8

TO EVERYTHING there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven:

2 A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted,

3 A time to kill and a time to heal, a time to break down and a time to build up,

4 A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,

5 A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

6 A time to get and a time to lose, a time to keep and a time to cast away,

7 A time to rend and a time to sew, a time to keep silence and a time to speak,

8 A time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

Top Ten Reasons Hurricane Season Is Like Christmas:

Number Ten: Decorating the house (with plywood).

Number Nine: Dragging out boxes that haven't been used since last season.

Number Eight: Last minute shopping in crowded stores.

Number Seven: Regular TV shows pre-empted for 'Specials'.

Number Six: Family coming to stay with you.

Number Five: Family and friends from out of state calling you.

Number Four: Buying food you don't normally buy . . . and in large quantities.

Number Three: Days off from work.

Number Two: Candles.

And the Number One reason Hurricane Season is like Christmas:

At some point you're probably going to have a tree in your house!
