8 little known facts... 10-07-08 01:42pm EST
about me. I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to do this but I didn't have any trouble coming up with 8 things about me that are kind of random. I guess that makes me a random person. And to share the love I will be tagging some of you who probably also hoped to avoid this craze! :)

1. I was born in Charleston South Carolina. We lived there on the naval base until I was about 2. I have never been back and would like to.

2. I was on a local TV show when I was in elementary school. It was some kind of quiz show called Jellybeans and was filmed at our local TV station. I remember there were 2 other kids from my school chosen too and I was picked out of the crowd to do something but that's all I remember. We had it on tape for awhile but I would hate to see it. That was during the time in my life where I had a bad perm for about 5 years!

3. When I was in school the number one thing I got in trouble for was my mouth. I talked way too much! I also tended to get in trouble at home with my mouth for being sarcastic. I was actually voted "Biggest Smart-Alec" in high school. Still my mouth sometimes gets me in trouble - the whole thinking before you talk thing. I love to talk which is why I really enjoy teaching women's and young people's classes.

4. Although in high school I cared what people thought about me (I didn't want to be in band because it was for nerds :) - although I was in it for one year) occasionally I did some pretty nerdy things. When I was a freshman I went and competed in a state typing contest! VERY cool - but I got out of school for one day!

5. My learning style is memorize and flush which I really regret now. I have a great short term memory but a horrible long term memory. I count on her for a lot of my childhood memories! I really wish now that I had a better memory because I've already found myself forgetting things my kids did at different ages!

6. I met Ryan in high school. But what is strange about that is where we met. We were both in Science Club (I think we both joined because they did a camping trip every year - I never went on the camping trip though) and had both signed up to do recycling duty the same Saturday. He made me laugh and not long after that we went on a double date with two of our best friends. The rest is history.

7. I am selectively obsessive compulsive. For example my picture albums have to be exactly lined up on the shelf but I can step over a pile of clutter to line them up. When I clean I am obsessive about any speck of fuzz on vaccummed carpets or water spots on counters/sinks I just cleaned. I think this is very strange but I can't help it. Sometimes I would rather just have it dirty than to have it almost perfect!

8. I have a brother who is in heaven with Jesus. My brother Luke Aaron Modin died when he was 11, I was a junior in college. He had a heart defect and Down Syndrome. He was the best thing that ever happened to our family and we miss him terribly. He died 6 weeks before I married Ryan and we considered calling off our wedding but knew how excited Luke had been to be an usher (Ryan told him ushers handed people toilet paper) and have another brother so we didn't. Our son is named after Uncle Luke.

appleGreat list!
Number 9 had me in tears, even though that was one fact I already knew.
loloI think you tagged way too many people...I'll gladly remove myself from that list. ; ) I'm right there with you on #5...it drives me crazy, especially with Bible knowledge.
chaiJellybeans! For some reason, the other day I was thinking about how you were on that show and vaguely remembering watching the video. You're more famous that I am - I've been in the newspaper, but never on tv.

We saw Ryan and the kids last night. Are you going to be able to make it up here any night this week? His lessons have been SO good!
bamacraneOkay, you tagged me! I hope you're able to go hear Jeff this week. If so, be sure and tell him that you know us!
kcrxgirlI can relate to #7
nancyjoYea Becky! I am glad you conformed and shared your 8 random things. I learned some things about you I didn't know. Next time I see you, can I have your autograph? After all, you are a TV star!
loloThanks, I don't know what my apprehension is about doing photography. Part of me feels like the area is pretty saturated with affordable photographers and all of my friends use friends here already. We'll see...
bigdeborahyou missed my 8 post. it's at the bottom of the first page of my blog :)
YOU??? voted Biggest Smart-Alec?? noooo...can't be! ;)
I remember when Luke was my boyfriend for about 5 minutes at camp. He sat by me during an assembly. so sweet. :)
stevenbramanBecky, I have wonderful memories of Luke. He was always my little buddy.
crazy_mamaLove reading this. I am so much like you!!! I'm with you on #7. For the same things too. I can't stand water spots of lint on my carpet. Silly huh! I want to see this Jellybeans show! I already knew about your brother Luke but it was sweet to hear you talk about him. I remember when he was a baby we were all at your house swimming and I remember your mom feeding him in a high chair.
mini_lizziei am totally number 7 too! ;)
bamacraneI am sad to say that yes, I have been slapped because of my mouth! Actually more than once... :( I pray that at 28 years old, I am a tiny bit wiser than I was in the teen years.
jpand3These comments have been enlightening. The next time Maria smarts off to me, I will perhaps handle it more firmly.
thomassivei loved when you were on jellybeans!!
cranenestHey Becky I was on a shows when I was 5. It was called Sherry Thomas and Lamb Chop she was a girl with a puppet that was a lamb
debsherbsThanks for the list! You are a kindred spirit! When your family lost Luke we lived in Vegas, it was so hard to think of the loss that you all felt. Your parents are really wonderful to so many and they live by example.
audgeThank you thank you! I'm not sure if Daddy has seen them yet...I warned him though so he should be prepared. Of course he's told me that Josh has had his quota for the year and can't kiss me til the wedding day!!!
crazy_mamaBirthdays were a big deal growing up. I start planning MONTHS in advance and I get stuff cheap. Also if you make things it's cheaper too. Remember all those felt characters for Maleia's party. I made like 18 sets and they were only around $15 with all the supplies. FELT IS CHEAP!!! IT's my best friend. You can move it and twist it into whatever you want it to be. I found the flowers for the dangle dlower garland on SUPER clearance and I bought ever pack I could grab. They were around $.25 for 10. So I bought 20 packs which set me back the big $5.00! Also the favors (felt flower pots, watering cans and flower head bands) were $1 each so that was $3 per kid which isn't bad either (of course the nail polish was FREE!) I made the table cloths and all the hair clips and little flower pots (those were $.49 each) so like I said not to much cost goes into it. I will say the food is expensive and usually the cake but this year a friend did it for free for me so that's not big deal either. I never run a big total at the end cause for me it's not about the money. Since I spend months buying everything I wait till it's on sale and then go in for the kill! Spreading it out makes it not be a burden on the budget. A couple bucks every month is it!
lynzwhat are Luke and Lily going to be for Halloween?

Some local news... 10-06-08 07:48pm EST
I know you all are holding your breath until I post my 8 random or little known facts, since I have been tagged, but you'll have to wait. :) (Besides you will probably already know them all!) I just wanted to post this link to a local story that's getting a lot of press nationally. Why? Because I used to do speech therapy at this school! And believe me the fact that this is what their spending their school day doing is the least of their problems. This school is largely for kids who have failed at every other school in Kansas City. They are the kids every one else has given up on and there are a lot of problems there. The year I worked there we had a shooting at one of our bus stops. But also while I was there I informed the principal that they were out of compliance on every IEP they had and nothing was ever done about it. It seemed to me that lots of the teachers didn't even bother teaching (most of them were not certified but were working on it). But at least they are teaching politics. So check out UCLA's national claim to fame! (Sorry I don't know how to link it!)

New Pics... 09-10-08 10:21pm EST
I just wanted to put up these new pictures of the kids. Luke had his 4 year pictures taken today. There were lots of good ones and now I'm second guessing that I picked the 2 best. I was limited by the budget this month so I had to narrow it to two poses! So here are the two I picked.

And I had to throw these in too. Lily got some cowgirl boots from a friend and I just had to take a picture of her. She wasn't really cooperating with posing but I got one anyway. And Luke never wants me to take one of her without him, so even though he'd had a whole portrait session, I got another one of the two of them. Lily is very impressed with her boots. When she first put them on yesterday she had no idea how to walk in them so she was walking on her heels. Of course I didn't have the camera! But here are the pictures.

tamerten98adorable pics
jennkingWell, Loren is kind of the "flower girl in training." There are four other flower girls and little Loren is just going to wear a pretty dress and be in the pictures. We think she'll probably be a tad too young to walk down the aisle-I have NO idea what she would do!!!
charliesangelLove the cowgirl boots. gotta get Evie a pair. Luke is so handsome!!
sureshot79Your kids are SO cute! I want a pair of those pink cowboy boots like Lily's! Those are great pics of Luke- I of course am loving the pumpkin prop!!
debsherbsHow CUTE! They are growing so fast! Enjoy them! Thanks for sharing!!
jimandtyraI guess we just decided not to stick him with a name that was also the name of a hard liquor. Aside from that, I still like it. It was family names, after all!
jennkinghey! was just reading back through my old blogs and realized you asked me for my address and I never gave it to you! It's 1661 Twin Lakes Circle, Tallahassee, FL 32311.
jpand3She's on B team. They have 7 players on A-team and 6 of the 7 play club ball. So they are really good. They are undefeated too. The B team has 11 and she has got a lot of playing time which is good. and YES I wish they all had instructions at time. The other thing is I wish I could get inside their heads and see what is going on/or not as may be the case.
emwhittToo funny! What a crazy little man you have! :)
vandeWow, Luke looks like he must've gotten your tall genes (no offense to Ryan... especially since he's probably taller than I am) but you know what I mean right? I think adorable pretty much sums up those pictures.
blink05The doctor gave me medicine to lower my heart rate so my brain won't tell my body to faint as often.
nancyjo^^I was confused by Josh's comment...is he saying Ryan is taller than him or Luke is taller than him?
jimandtyraDefinitely feeling better. We did go when Mary was about 2 months old. Of course she just laid there, so we could get all the pictures we wanted. Not so much this time. You had to bribe her with food. Some of the cutest pictures of the night were ruined because of the food on her mouth. Case in point:

emwhittThanks for the sweet thought, but you are a bit early! :) Her birthday is on Tues (the 30th). She was due on the 24th, but didn't feel like coming then ;)
We're leaving for Disney on Monday!
ktembryHe is 8 months now.
loloWe had the party yesterday. At the end of every month we have a potluck at our house for the whole congregation and this month is fell right on Lydi's birthday, so we decided to just go ahead and have her party then. We'll have another small one when Mom and Dad are in town. I made the cakes...they didn't turn out as I had hoped, but considering I was sick the whole day before, I was pretty happy. : ) And thanks for the compliments on the pics...I LOVE them and now Mom and Dad want to have more done while they're here. : )
loloI think one of the girls I went to school with is now a supervisor and Jeanette McElwain, last I heard, is in HR now. I'd have her start there...ask if Jeanette is still working there and go from there maybe. The girl I was in school with, Amber, might still be there...I think Katie would know...I'll try to remember to ask her.
blink05The women do that at ours too, but I kept both of my outfits modest. My boyfriend was amazingly quite pleased with my choice. He surprises me every day. :) What's new with you?
jpand3Hey are you officiating at the Ray-Pec Middle School v-ball tourney Oct 11th. We won't be there but Antioch will and they have a good team that is fun to watch.
jpand3PS Hope to see you guys next week.
jpand3Aren't you funny! There's nothing more beautiful than the M with the tiger head in the middle!!!!! Ok maybe there is, but it ranks up there.
blink05We met at work, oddly enough. I met him in January and he had this curly, overgrown hair with a mountain man beard to match. In March he cut off all his hair to a shorter hairstyle, shaved off his beard, and I didn't recognize who he was. We officially started dating the middle of August although there were lots of lunch "dates" in between.
nancyjo"TAG"....please tell us 8 random facts about yourself.
crazy_mamaThanks for the comment. I feel the same way! The best thing about Seminole is that ALL the kids are so well behaved. I have never seen any of them have to go to the back. I'm serious about that. They just sit there and be good. It's a great thing but there is pressure there for me and my family is just getting used to daddy preaching up front and mommy doing everything while daddy is up there. My Sunday's used to be nice and relaxing and now they have turned into alot of work for me. I feel like I wrestle with Maleia all Sunday. Today my back is actually tired. Don't get me wrong...she's a good girl. But I am on constant alert with her to make sure that when church is over and she's down playing that she's behaving then too. We'll get the hang of it!
bamacraneIt was great to talk to you last night! And I got my picture today...THANKS! :)

Happy Birthday... 09-08-08 11:16am EST
To my sweet husband! He's only a baby - 28! Someone thought he was 40 the other day and he was so excited about that! Weirdo! :) I am very lucky to be married to my bestest friend, closest confidant, and greatest encourager!

Also happy birthday to her sister and her husband! We know lots of people that share Ryan's birthday and we like them all too! :) Have a good day! I'm off to look for another present for Ryan. I decided this morning that he needed something else so we're headed to a sports store that's going out of business to see if we can find him a basketball to go with his new goal.
loloTell Ryan "Happy Birthday from Weasel!"
sgarner2005Happy Birthday to Ryan! Too funny about him being happy about someone thinking he was 40. That's a huge difference b/t a man and a woman! :) I'd be quite upset!
crazy_mamaHappy Birthday Ryan. This was my due date with Noelani and there were tons of people born on this day. So many people wanted me to go into labor on the 8th (including me!) but Noelani had other plans for us!
mini_lizzieawwww, happy birthday ryan! :)
stylinmamaHappy Birthday to Ryan!
emwhittHappy, B-day Ryan!!
calvinsparentsHappy Birthday Ryan!!
bamacraneHappy Birthday, Ryan...from the Stripper!
bamacrane...and from her husband! :)
vandeWhat a great b-day present. Happy birthday Ryan in case you happen to ever read Becky's blogs.

debsherbsHappy Birthday Ryan!
charliesangelHappy Birthday Ryan! And you are most welcome for your shoutout. I kept hearing you in my head..."i want to see a picture!" :)
muzikman73Becky...it's Troy Vaughan down in Texas! Hey there! I can't believe it's been 8 months since I saw you at my Grandpa's funeral...CUTE pictures of the kids!
buttermilkI'm doing this thing called Montgomery Adventure Boot Camp. You meet at 5:30am and work out for an hour. But, you apparently need to be in shape before it starts. Otherwise, you end up as sore as I am. I'm currently sitting at my desk with ice packs on my quadriceps. :)
kcrxgirlThanks for your input! So if we're just looking at a $115k duplex, how much do you think we should have for a downpayment? We were planning on financing the whole thing since we could afford the payments at that rate.
jimandtyraI knew you'd be one of the few that got the "Insulin Penns" reference.

So what happens... 09-03-08 04:54pm EST
when you wake up in the morning (ok late morning :) to find that the high is only in the low 60s? And you realize that your daughter has no pants - only shorts and capris? I guess you pull out the one pair of pants the poor child has and hope its warmer tomorrow! That's what I did anyways! Is it really fall? It was 90 just the other day - today 60 and raining! I guess I need to call some people and see if they have any hand me downs because I am not prepared to buy her all new clothes! And I guess I'll be hitting our local baby thrift store to find some things. Her problem (as is her brother's problem) is she's tall and very skinny! So when we buy used a lot of times the waists are very stretched out. They both need those pants that have the adjustable waists. I start officiating volleyball tomorrow. In MO varsity games can be 3/5 instead of the 2/3 that all the schools in the big conference in this area still do. Lucky me I have tons of matches at the one private school in town that is doing 3/5. At least its more money! So I'm off to get yelled out by coaches and spectators alike! Fun fun! But at least Christmas will be taken care of and some major savings too! I'm off to start dinner!
