"So the left all the commandments of the Lord their God, made for themselves a molded image and two calves, made a wooden image and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. And they caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and soothsaying, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger."
- God's response "Therefore the Lord was very angry angry with Israel, and removed them from His sight; there was none left but the trip of Judah alone."
For information sake this is 2 Kings 17:16-18 and this is the text speaking of how Israel was being taking into captivity. Even great nations fall.
I had a discussion with a friend last night about how my life was being filled with proverbs. I'm not talking specifically about those within scripture. I'm talking about the ones you get from your grandparents, parents, or even your friends. I'll leave you with a couple of mine. What are some of the proverbs that you live your life by?
The Basis of any good relationship is a good understanding - My amazing Grandmother
Hi. My name is Curtis Carwile. I am the PIT at the Olsen Park congregation (I attend with Brady's parents). We just moved to Amarillo a few months ago for this program.
oh and to add to Drew's "you don't tug on superman's cape, you don't spit into the wind, you don't mess around with the ol' lone ranger and you don't mess with Jim"
I agree with Bob Barr on the role of the federal government. His economic policies are very good. But he's pro-choice, which I can't accept. I also have trouble with legalizing recreational drugs and prostitution.
Why was I suppose to call you? I never make people mad! I constantly stick to topics that are either commonly agreed upon or non-substantive to avoid anger! ;)
i don't remeber where i've heard it, but i really like this quote- "marriage is the bud of which heaven is the blossom". isn't that so right?!
if the person you marry doesn't help u get to heaven, then you had no business marrying them in the first place!

proverb from our house this week..."If you jump out of the fish bowl and have the good fortune to get put back in, learn your lesson and don't jump out again." Do I win the prize?

Update: Forget it... I tried to be fancy but you can just copy and paste it.
Intro: Every had those nights where you think about eternity? About part of you will never, ever die? Do you get that feeling in the pit of your stomach, almost a fearful feeling thinking about it? Today we want to look at our motivation for serving God.
1. Fear
Hell is a terrible place and many times we are driven to serve God out of fear. I remember talking with a friend of mine and she said that the real reason she obeyed the gospel is because she was scared of Hell. Fear is a good motivator... but not a complete motivator.
2. Love
Heaven is a wonderful place and God has given us these blessings. We should love the Lord for them and be thankful He has provided them for us. Love is a more complete motivator. You can cause just about anyone to do just about anything, but love is a much more lasting and permanent motivation.
3. Where Fear and Love Meet
The cross is where fear and love meet. People become fearful over events in there life like 9/11 and then they come to God. Just like the Philippian Jailer when he was faced with death and asked "What must I do to be saved?" People are driven to the cross when they are fearful.
Love brought Christ to the cross. Jn 3:16 is the most well known passage on this idea. God sent His Son to the cross with all the love a maker could have for His creation. Now those who believe in Christ like the Jailer will be saved.
4. Where it meets in our life
There are two fates main motivators and Peter speaks of both of them in 1 Peter 1:17-19. 17 addresses how we conduct our lives in fear and then 18-19 tell us about how we live Holy because of the precious blood of the Lamb. Our lives is where fear and love meet. We need to have both motivations to live the Christian life.
Conclusion: 1 Jn 4:17-19 - Perfect love casts out fear. Despite all the fear people have of judgment it is easy to become distracted and apathetic. True love is undistracted and unwavering in it's commitment. Because of the Love of Christ we no longer go around fearful. We live our life in confidence based on Christ's sacrifice.
What motivates you? Fear or Love? Both are good, but Love is better. Therefore - Love the Lord with all your being (Mt 22:36-40)
