Well, shethinks I need an update, and I do. It's been a while!
Things are really awesome! December was abosolutely wonderful! I had the month off, and I enjoyed every second. I tried to work a little, but I didn't try hard enough so I was lazy all month. We enjoyed a wonderful week in Gatlinburg with both sets of parents and stayed in an awesome cabin. I've never been there in December; it was great! We really enjoyed the decorations and the shows at Dollywood. Christmas was exceptional; we are so blessed by all the people in our lives. We got a whole lot more than we deserved! Got to see all the family, which is always great.
Enjoyed a Rook tournament at the Montgomery's house on New Year's. I think Samantha fed us like three nights that weekend! The Rook tournament was great fun, and I've now learned how to play poker-at least somewhat.
What has been really awesome is spending time with the couples from Gooch Lane, along with some of our friends from Athens, too. I'm really excited to be at a congregation with so many great people our age to spend time with! Girls' Movie Night #2 is tomorrow night, and we're going to see 27 Dresses. Hope it is as good as it looks. At least, hopefully we'll leave happy instead of sad as we did from P.S., I Love You. That was a good movie, though.
I've got two workout buddies now-Mama twice a week and Samantha 2-3 times a week. That's helping a lot to know someone is counting on me. Maybe I'll be a bit healthier this year. I gave an inservice this morning to seniors at the Madison County Senior Center (which is very nice if you know someone who could use it, by the way). It was on healthy resolutions and how to set goals. I really enjoyed it, and it made me feel good how much they seemed to appreciate it. Plus, my evaluator said I'm a fantastic speaker! That is so good to hear because I get nervous with those sort of things, and sometimes I have trouble speaking clearly. Just shows if I relax, that I do a better job.
I'm at Rite Aid this month, and I feel like I get to stay at home more than I go anywhere to work, which has been a nice change. Next month will be a shocker, though when I have to be at the hostpital from 8-5 M-F. The next month will be even more of a shock, when I'll need to be there at 4-4:30 AM! I'll get through it, and I graduate in less than 4 months (May 6th, 10 AM!!)!!!
Which also makes me think of my residency interview-it's on Feb. 4th. Keep me in your thoughts; maybe I won't be too nervous! It's a whole day thing, though.
Well, this update went longer than I thought it would be. Hope everyone is doing great!
**UPDATE: Just received an email about graduation invitations and cap & gown!!! It's finally close!!!***
Yeah!! You passed your tests. BTW I inadvertently deleted one of your comments - I get confused. Kelly is planning another scrap day - I'll keep you posted.
Well, this weekend is my birthday so we are going down to my parents for most of the weekend so maybe we can try and plan something for next weekend. I'll talk to TJ and see if we have anything going on already. I miss hanging out with other couples : ) Hope you have a good week!
TJ has class on Thursday nights, but they are almost over I'll see when his last class is. It's crazy how time flies and how busy we all are!! I'll get back to ya and see if we can't come up with something : )
That is funny! PCA is the Popular Culture Association, the big conference in my field each year. I have to work on my abstract a little earlier this year so that I can get my money to go. Luckily, it's just in New Orleans, so it should be cheaper this year. I'm living in Village West, and I really like it so far...with the exception of the car alarm going off all day today. That I could have done without. We'll have to get together one of these times I'm back home! How's Jonathan?
Thanks to everyone who commented, called, sent cards, or visited when Nanny died. It means so much!
Can't believe how fast time flies now! It's almost Thanksgiving and I'm half way through my rotations!! I do stay busy these days though!
*Since my earlier post, I've had two rotations in pediatrics. I abosolutely loved both!! I'm really hoping to get a pediatric focused residency next year so I can be a clinical specialist. It means another year of hard work, but it will be worth it. :)
*In July I had the cardiology rotation. It was interesting as well. I had the opportunity to go see an open heart surgery, but I was scared with my history of dealing with blood that it wouldn't be such a great idea. I did get to go to the cath lab though, which was really interesting.
*Last month, I was at the hospital basically in general pharmacy. One day though, I got to go the OR to follow the pharmacist down there. She would find me a nurse anesthetist in a surgery, and I got to watch the surgery. I was pretty nervous about it, but I did pretty well. The first surgery I did have a litle trouble, but the other two went fine. I got to see them fixing a little boy's broken arm and replacing a knee. The last surgery was a laproscopic surgery, and they were tying the stomach around the esophagus because the patient had treatment resistant refulx. It was a very exciting day, and I was very excited that I got to do it. Now I wish I had attempted the open heart surgery!! Of course, I probably would have passed out in that one first, too.
*This month I'm at the UAB clinc. I like it so far. I like getting to interact with the patient more. Other than all this, I'm getting all my presentations done and preparing to apply for residencies. I got one of my BIG presentations out of the way, and I have a few more smaller ones and my poster at the end. I'll graduate May 6th!!!! Can't believe it's almost here!
*Jonathan is going to school and keeping some money coming in by working at Walgreens. He was at a horrible store but recently got transferred, so it is much better...for both of us! ;)
*Other than that, we're just trying to enjoy being up here. I'm off in December, so we're going with the parents for few days to Gatlinburg. Really looking forward to seeing the lights up there!! We were able to go to the Montgomery wedding. REALLY loved getting to see everyone again!!
*I chopped off my hair...again. May leave it like this for a while....it's amazing how much lighter it feels. Maybe I'll get a pic up one of these days.
*Guess that's mostly what we're up to...spending time with family and friends when we can and staying busy!
Hope everyone is doing well!
I soooo would have gone to the open heart surgery!!! Time does go fast, especially when in school studying all the time! Enjoy your break in December! =)
time does fly by!! it will continue to fly too!! thanksgiving is next week and i can't believe that!! i want to see a pic of your hair i bet its cute!! : ) we need to hang out soon!!
Hey. I'm so glad Jonathan changed stores! I can't wait to see your short hair. I can't believe I'm going to Vegas this Sunday - it's all happening so fast. HAve a great Christmas!
Who's your best "girl" friend on Pleo? Or at least your top five? I've figured up a way to show them you appreciate them this holiday season! Check out my blog!
Long time no talk! I hope you and Jonathan have a good Christmas! And hopefully we'll see you soon. I will keep you updated on our next trip to Athens.
Well, I know I haven't posted in months, and it has been a crazy few months. Unforunately, the reason I am posting is to ask for prayers for my family. My Nanny (grandmother) passed away this afternoon. We knew it was coming, and honestly we are relieved that she is no longer suffering. It is a glorious thing to know she is in God's care now, and someday we'll all be together again. Nonetheless, it can be hard for us left on earth. I would really appreciate all of your prayers! She was a great Christian woman who worked hard to take care of her family around her. Her family meant so much to her, and I fully believe she was ready to meet her God.
Thanks,
Kelly

Well, now months later, Jonathan is basically healed and we have moved up to Madison. It's great being back here. We loved Auburn, but there is a great thing about being at home where you're family is. We got settled in the first of May. I get two months off this last year while I do my rotations, and May was the first one. May 19th was our first anniversary-time really does fly! We took a trip to Asheville, North Carolina.
We both had our first whole lobster-this place had fresh lobster brought overnight from Maine. It was very good, but you have to work for it!
We spent most of our time on the Biltmore Estate. We had a Bed and Breakfast package with the Double Tree Hotel, and we got to eat breakfast at the bakery right beside the Biltmore house. It was very yummy!! We toured the home and the winery (no tasting!) and we walked along all the garden paths. We got to watch a cooking demonstration at the winery, as well. It was really wonderful!
One day we took in a little bit of Asheville-we saw some of the historic spots and specialty shops and went to the art museum. We happened on this great restaurant as well-Bistro 1896-you have to go there if ever in Asheville. It had that outdoor cafe setting-which seemed to be really popular-and the food was amazing!
One night we went out for our special anniversary dinner, compliments of Jonathan's grandparents. It was at this fancy inn, and we had this wonderful view of Asheville and the mountains. The meal was amazing, and the atmosphere was perfect for our special occasion. :)
Our last day in Asheville, we drove to Chimney Rock. It was a very curvy, beautiful ride. Chimney Rock jets from the rocks around it, and you can get up on it to see the wonderful view below. The Last of the Mohicans was filmed along some of the trails there. We hiked three miles of trails-down to the bottom of a 404 foot waterfall and up to the top of the waterfall; we do suggest taking the elevator to Chimney Rock though!!
Then we were headed home, but as usual, Jonathan was hungry. He saw a sign for Sevierville and thought Applewood Restaurant! We took an unplanned detour to Sevierville to enjoy the goodness of Apple fritters and apple butter! Then, we decided to stay and go to Dollywood, an adventure we had missed on our Honeymoon. So, we spent our anniversary in Dollywood....not where I expected, but it was a fun end to a very wonderful trip!
Next post: My week in Memphis with Mama. :)
All in all, May was a great month. Of course all months of leisure and fun must come to an end; I started rotations Friday; however, since my preceptor is out of town till Thursday, my early mornings don't start till then-at least my really early mornings. Presently I'm getting up early to read all the articles she gave us to read to prepare for what is to come-3 inch binder's worth! I've got a lot of reading to do, but I'm excited about the rotation...maybe more on that later, too!
Of course I can't forget to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Dutton! The wedding was beautiful; we are so happy for y'all!!
~Kels
Do you think you could break away for a movie and some girlie stuff sometime soon? Annessa (Smith--do you know her? I've never asked) and I were talking about going to see Becoming Jane sometime soon. Mags might come too, if I can trick her into seeing a movie. :) Let me know if and when you want to go, and we'll set it up!
I'm sorry I'm such a bad friend--I've got to call you back! Things have been insane this week, and it doesn't look like it's going to get better. I'm not sure if I'll have free time until I've finished with this class, so if you two want to go ahead and go while you know the movie's still here I wouldn't blame you. :) We should all get together soon, though. I'm not sure what I'm doing for my birthday, but I'd love to have you and Jonathan come to whatever it is!
He's doing better after the accident, altho doctors dont think they set his mouth right the first time...Sept 10th we'll find out and if they didnt this means Steven goes back in for another surgery :( *where they will break his jaw and set it again* :(
Hey, I know what you mean everytime I catch up, there is something else to do. I have three different projects due in October, not including all the tests comming up needless to say I'm well booked for awhile. Well it is good to hear from you, and I miss you and Jonathan. Y'all really need to come and visit again sometime..
My grandmother passed away a few years ago and I can definitely relate to what you may be feeling. I'll pray for you. We should grab some dinner sometime. I haven't seen y'all in a while.
Sorry to hear that. I haven't really been keeping up with everyone's blogs, and Amy asked me tonight if I had heard about your grandmother. I'll be thinking of all of you, and your mom especially.
Hey Kelly thanks!!! It is a relief to get that test behind me. We got me mostly moved in last night. We moved the bed and all of my stuff that I had at TJ's now we just have to get all my stuff from my house!! : ) FUN! But I like my apartment and I stayed their last night and I didn't get scared!!! : )
