Windows Internals: 4th Edition (0735619174)

I have recently purchased Windows Internals: 4th Edition for the express purpose of learning a bit more about the workings of the windows2000/XP/2003 platform.

Last night, I cracked open the book for the first time. All I could say is "Whoa!".

This book is incredible. I had read the reviews and found it to be the highest rated by far, but I did not expect it to be this crammed with information.

This book is not a guide for the API. If you are interested in API or .NET programming, this book will not help you (although it does reference some API functions in passing). This book is not a guide for ALL windows operations. It does not cover COM+, .NET, the distributed OOP infrastructure, but it does cover the base system components.

If you find yourself looking for a tome that gives you a great peek into the internal structure and operation of Windows, this is the book for you.
