welcome to 3.0

after over a year of hard work by many others and myself, i'd like to be the first to welcome you to pleonast 3.0!

we really hope you like it - we've gone over every single aspect of pleonast and tried to think through what works and what doesn't, and find ways of making your experience the best it can be. the new look might be a little disconcerting at first glance, but trust us - we think you'll get up to speed in no time. everything should be cleaner, easier, and more intuitive than before. even if at first you are confused or don't like the new design, just give it a couple of weeks - we really think that you will come to love it.

we've done our best to ensure that all of your existing entries, comments, etc have been imported properly, but the new site has been developed completely from scratch, and so there might be some cases where your links or comments might look a little messed up. this is mostly caused by the fact that previous versions of pleonast were very loose with what html they allowed. version 3.0 tries to clean up html and information as it's posted - for your safety - but the sad fact of the matter is that some imported data might not look right. however, you should be able to simply edit them and then it should be fine.

even though this codebase has gone through a thorough beta testing period, there are still bound to be bugs. if you find something, please report it using the 'report bug' feature down at the bottom of the page. please do your best to describe your issue, and we'll try to take care of it as soon as possible. to all of you who helped on betanast - thank you!, and be sure to check your email in the next two weeks or so.

if you are completely blown away by the site and want to thank us somehow, become a gold user :-) not only will you help pay for site costs, but you will also gain access to a ton of new features only available to gold users. if you are already a gold user, consider giving a gift subscription to someone else - gold users get a 10% discount on gift subscriptions!

pleonast exists because of you - thank you very much for being a part. now stop reading this and go start posting!

Like all right-thinking people, I use Firefox, which by default has the navigation buttons in the upper-left corner. However, the links on the new pleonast 3.0 run down the right edge of the page. I find the location of these links unnecessarily cumbersome to navigate. I prefer the links to be below the browser navigation buttons. That way, I can access the links and the back and forward buttons with minimal left/right mouse movement. This is especially annoying on wide-screen and laptop computers.

Also, as the length of content varies for each entry, so does the location of the prev, page number, and next buttons. It would be nice to place these buttons at the top of the page, so they aren't constantly changing position based on the length of content, i.e., they would always be in the same, familiar place.

Good work, and thanks for your consideration.

Everything about this is better than it was before. In a month, people will be used to this version, and complaints and concerns will cease until the next version, when everyone will wish you had left it like it is now.

Large, chocolate covered Kudos to you, Kennon.

I like the left to right easy reading better too - nice to just get the posts and comments, since I don't check links, groups, and etc. when I just want to read a quick post. I also have my blogger set up with links, etc. on the right side, and I like the look of other blogsites that do it this way. More professional looking all the way, IMHO.

I like being able to leave private posts for gold members, but I miss the easy-to-read old pleo. I also preferred the avatar on the left which gave it a more personal feeling because it defined each person's page. It would be nice if the name was out to the left of the comment so you could see who was leaving comments. Other than being hard to read, the thing I like the least, but which I will probably grow to love, is a new entry on each page. Now it takes longer to go through a person's entries since you can't just scroll down, but it's probably best to be spending less time on pleo so this may end up being a plus. I had been considering going gold; now I'm glad I waited. Thanks for the opportunity to leave feedback.

I can't seem to change my avatar, or remove it for that matter!
I check the little box that says "remove"
Then click update. It then disappears on that page but on my main page it is still there.

    What am I doing wrong?

I'm starting to get used to it and so far it's great. I'm having trouble copying/pasting the links to the pictures. My computer will copy it but it will not paste it. I have a mac and a friend who has a pc hasn't had any problems. Maybe it's my computer?

I see a lot of questions I have myself about the new Pleo, which I really like, btw; so I'm sure you'll get around to answering them when you have time:) Thanks!

sjb, you can create a new entry by clicking on 'new entry' on the menu under your username banner on your weblog (in the big grey rectangle on the right sidebar)

denisemccaskill, the old "friend names" function is now called "befriended by" and is available on the friends dropdown on your sidebar.

Every time someone leaves a new comment on this page, I get a message in my inbox letting me know. While I appreciate the great communication, I'm not sure it's necessary. May I unsubscribe? ;)

So when are the t-shirts going to be available?
    by sparky at 07/08/09 12:34AM
  • kennon
pooky, that happens when you 'follow' this entry. right under the entry should be a link to 'unfollow'.

How do you add people to your friends list?
    by mommarn at 07/23/09 7:33PM
  • kennon
mommarn, go to the user you want to friend, and on the right sidebar should be a link to 'add to friends list'

I love this new format. I really do. And I am NOT an advocate for change of any kind, so I'm surprised I like it so much. Really great job...just don't change it again.

You know...I gotta admit...I'm not liking the whole 'show one entry at a time' thing. I miss my piggy back posts. *cry*

Maybe there could be an option like blogger does, as to how many entries at a time show?
