Waiting to be impressed...
Ok well those of you who know me are aware that I'm a pretty ginormous Houston Rockets fan. Ever since I knew what basketball was, I've followed them. I watched (rather cringingly) through the ball hogging, reckless years of Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley following the championships. I'm not a fair weather fan.. I don't care if they're losing or winning.. I'm a Rockets fan.
With all of that said. *sigh* This organization is just falling to pieces. Yeah we're gonna have McGrady and Yao and no team (barring crazy injuries) with those two is gonna have a ~horrible~ record. HOWEVER, unless they have something in mind that I can't see, the future looks afwully bleak to me.. here's what we've seen so far:
- Daryl Morey is hired over Dennis Lindsey as General Manager. General consensus: Daryl who? So far the guy has been seen as nothing more than a puppet in the hands of Les Alexander who gets to take the media fire for Les' goofups. Would I like to see the guy impress.. sure.. hope it comes soon.
- The firing of Jeff Van Gundy in a way that only rocks and very primitive fungus could possibly view as being handled in a tactful manner
- The hiring of Rick Adelman, whom, according to virtually every article I've read (and that's a LOT) is generally just here to pull in the same record we just had with a little more flair.
- A trade for Mike James for Juwan Howard. Mike James?? Why have the Rockets been salivating after this guy for the last couple of years???? Can he put up 30 points in a night? Sure! But if any of you watched him when he played for us you'll recall that his biggest contribution on the court in most games was helping to warm the building on the more chilly nights.. the guy just disappears half of the time. Granted that Juwan did the same thing, but we're seriously lacking in Power Forwards right now and Juwan has proved in ~multiple~ situations (by situations read: "injuries to Yao and Tracy") that he can pick up a scoring load. If T-Mac goes down again for 30 games, do you think Mike James is gonna carry that load? I don't think so.
- The latest? Dennis Lindsey just bolted.. Yeah (for those of you who really don't know who he is) one of the greatest talent scouts in the game just took off for San Antonio. Did he just leave because he was heading for a better job? (which it is) I doubt it.. I think he see's the Rockets taking a serious nosedive and he doesn't want to be standing on the deck when they run out of lifeboats.
At first we had heard everything about "shaking up the roster". "The Rockets need a veteran point guard who can find the basket." "The Rockets need a ~true~ power forward that has some.. well.. power." Now all of the rockets article writing monkeys are trying to spread around the rumor that our roster is great and we don't need to change much. (If you don't believe me, go to the Rockets website and read the "Under Review" articles that have been up on the PG, SG, and SF so far). The Houston community is considering TAKING BACK Bonzi Wells?!?!?!?! I don't care WHAT this guy is ~capable~ of! He left the team when we needed him most. He's shown that he is LAZY and UNRELIABLE and generally a BIG BABY. Talent aside, this guy needs to GO in my opinion.. his actions in the past season were completely unprofessional and unforgivable. If I chose not to show up to teach my students for the last month of school I ~promise~ you: I'd be the proud owner of a cardboard box home on the side of the road. What sickens me even MORE is that I've seen multiple times in articles that they think we should bring back Steve "ball hog" Francis! Yeah we need him like we need a point blank rocket launcher shot to the face. *sigh*
Rashaard Lewis ain't gonna happen. Ron Artest ain't gonna happen (lets hope so anyway). As far as I can tell there's nothing that they're even hinting at that's going to make any difference at all.
Am I waiting to be impressed? Yes I am. Do I expect it at this point? Honestly?

Howard was old, James is a little younger. James isn't coming to Houston to be the MAN, James is coming here to work in the rotation. It's about time the Jeff Van Gundy gets fired. He did nothing in his time here. Playing with Yao and TMac will gardner consideration from most major FA's. Does that mean they will sign. No. Adelman a good coach, I heard he had the best record not to win a championship. Cand JVG say that? I'm not for taking Bonzi Wells back(but I have heard he works well in Adelman's system), so in that case I wouldn't jump off a cliff if he came back or if Francis came back either. We need help. Beggars can't be choosers
