Is it like different things to entertain kids? If so, I put basic things in mine, like crayons and markers, a yo-yo, an hourglass... I had M&Ms for some reason, I can't remember why... What age group are you doing it for? That would help, too, because older kids you could do different flashcards and card games.

Hey, in our classes we have to do "Sensory Integration" boxes. We called them our "Fidget Boxes." Basically it was a box of little items that the kids could fidget with while we went on with a lesson. We used play-doh, koosh balls, interesting feeling fabric, squeeze balls, little bits of putty... anything that would keep the kids hands busy but not take much thought so they could listen to the story.

Ironically, I have to have a wad of play-doh in my hand even today if I expect to concentrate. Otherwise, my attention goes to what my hands can find.
