Neighbors...

There is a neighborhood right across from our apartment complex. There are these people who live in the house right across from our apartment who have a mini-poodle type dog. They just let that dog wander all over the place. NORMALLY the dog stays in the yard. But if he sees another dog (like when I'm out walking Bella), he walks to the middle of the street and just stays there. He might whine a little bit but he doesn't bark.

But he is in the middle of the street!!! The street is not super busy but it turns off a VERY busy road and cars come flying down that street (even though the speed limit is 25). I've seen TWO wrecks happen because of the dog.

I've taken the dog back to the house and tried to talk to the people twice but they don't speak English. Or if they do, they aren't speaking English to me.

I just saw another wreck this morning, that is three in the past two months. Should I just call animal control and let them know what is going on? That poor dog is going to get hit or just continue to cause accidents! The problem with calling Animal Control is I've seen them over there at least once already. I don't think it did much. :P

Ugh......this stuff drives me crazy!!

I have dogs that will escape their restraints on occasion, despite my best efforts, so this is hard to say: Call Animal Control. Be specific in your complaint. Explain the neighbors apparently do not speak English and request that the AC officer who comes be bilingual. If there are sufficient complaints, AC is usually required to do ... something. :(

After talking to Animal Control, you might want to consider calling the police (on a non-emergency line, of course) and explaining what you have witnessed. That is, three wrecks caused by a wandering dog AND speeding cars. Maybe they could patrol the area a little, catch a few speeders and corral the dog if he gets out.

Surely there are leash laws to be followed there. If the family cannot comply with the leash laws, perhaps the dog needs to be taken away and given to a person that actually cares whether or not the dog gets hit by a car.
