Doggie allergies

One of my dogs has been sneezing and scratching at her nose a lot. My allergies have been bad lately, too, so I sympathize with her.

Any recommendations? Anyone ever tried giving your dog Claritin or Benadryl on a regular basis for allergies? I gave our other dog a 1/2 Benadryl once when he seemed to be having a reaction to something and he tolerated it pretty well.

Your thoughts please.

Benadryl is pretty safe. I have given 25 mg (one small capsule) once or twice a day as needed, and had decent results from it.

You may also want to try oatmeal shampoo/conditioner - it soothes the skin.

We give ours Claritin for allergies, our vet said it is ok.

You could also use a damp cloth to wipe down her paws when she comes inside.

I went to the vet with Fuzzy because she was scratching her ears A LOT -- to the point that she was creating sores! He said she had allergies, gave her a shot, and put her on 10mg of Prednisone a day. She is now MUCH happier. Inky and Keeper, being a little older, haven't suffered as much from the allergies (yet at least).

Her allergies have been causing her to have "eye boogers" and yesterday our other dog walked up to her and licked them away. I'm not sure whether to be touched b/c he cares about his "sister" and was trying to help her or be grossed out b/c he likes eating icky things.
